Dothan, called the Peanut Capital, is the location of the National Peanut Festival and the hub of Alabama's Wiregrass region. The Dothan area produces one quarter of the US peanut crop. Much of that crop is also processed in Dothan. The National Peanut Festival is a Dothan annual event held in November.
The National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds features a monument to agricultural researcher, George Washington Carver. The George Washington Carver Museum, also located in Dothan, tells the story of Dr. Carver, as well as information on other African-American scientists, inventors and explorers.
