Tybee Island, a barrier island on Georgia's Atlantic Coast, is a quiet getaway near Savannah. Located near the mouth of the Savannah River, Tybee Island was once called Savannah Beach. It features 5 miles of unrestricted public beach with sand easy to walk and bike on. Tybee Island is also located approximately 11 miles southwest of Hilton Head Island.

Attractions include Tybee Pier and Pavilion - a popular fishihg spot, Fort Screven historic district - a former coastal defense unit that dates back to 1899, and the Tybee Island Light - an historic lighthouse that still serves as a navigational aid at the Savannah River Entrance.
